Great Is Thou Faithfulness....year 2009

Today Jon and I are enjoying a blessed day filled with God's precious Presence.  We began the morning together with a hot cup of coffee and listened to a message by our former beloved college president, S. D. Herron, "Being Filled with the Spirit."
After a beautiful rendition of "Great Is Thou Faithfulness" on our radio, we recounted God's personal faithfulness to us again this past year. Oh, how our hearts have been thrilled afresh and anew with our awesome God and Savior.
We enjoyed breakfast together. Fresh eggs from our neighbor, homemade bread from a dear friend in our church, sliced apples and coffee from a little widow lady.
Afterwards I sat at my computer and scheduled bill pay.  I wrote our checks and was able to pay off two of my medical bills, thanks to our part of our church's Baby Jesus Birthday Offering.
Now, I ask you....why should I worry of fret about tomorrow....January 1, 2011?  Every need He is supplying!  So undeserving, yet so grateful for God's wonderful provisions, and dear family and friends who so graciously share with us.
Happy New Year to you all!!!!!!!!!!  Our God still reigns!!

Happy Birthday, Melinda

Melinda turns 12 today!  Here she is with her Noah's Ark cookie cutters from Nanny and Papa.

Here Melinda is showing Papa her first completed quilt. I wish the colors had shown up better. It was so pretty. Melinda is quite a craftsman.

12 fast years...  Whew!  That's kind of scary!  Happy Birthday, honey, we love you!

Dear Friends and Family,

After some consideration,I have decided to make my blog "private."

I'm not really sure how many folks actually check my blog.  I'm going to leave this message up for a while before the transition.

If you wish to continue to view my blog, I need you to send me your email address via comments. I will not publish the comment , but immediately delete it.  I will however, use your email address to send you the pass word for my private blog.

My blog has never been a "professional site," but only a little window into our world.  If you have enjoyed viewing  moments of our family's daily life, I still welcome you.

Snakes and Snails......Sugar and Spice

Our Little Man hadn't stayed with us for soooooo long and was feeling it keenly.  So Amy dropped him off after school on Monday and let him spend the night.  He spent the entire evening outdoors, "hunting" with his bow, shooting his BB gun, riding his jeep, and busy being a boy.  I had to make him  come in at dark to eat supper.

The next morning, I "sleeked" Little Buddy up.  Parted, combed, and sprayed his hair in what I called his "Little Preacher Boy" hair style. "Man!" he said, "I hope I don't hit the top of the van with my head and mess up my hair."  His teacher thought it was pretty sharp, too!

Jon Abram's family came in Friday evening. It had been three weeks since I'd seen them. Erica spent the night here as well with her cousins.

Sugar and Spice.....  little girls and their toe socks(Melinda and Erica). I love it!

Yummmmmm.  Hot Chocolate on a cold morning.!

The girls just couldn't wait for the 37 degree morning to warm up before they raked leaves. So they improvised their warm garments.  Nanny's Little Scarecrows!  Hummmm... I think there is actually three critters in the picture above this one...Do you see a pink shoe?  Ahh.  She arises...

Grandkids.........one of God's greatest blessing!!!!!

Just A Little Kid

Good morning, Dear Friends and Family,

It's a beautiful day here in our beloved NC. There's a wonderful breeze and we're praying for rain. The leaves are just starting to turn. I sat on my deck this morning and saw beautiful hues of yellow, orange, and red.

I spoke with Dad. D. in the nursing home, and he asked me to enjoy them for him..... I also spoke with one of The Treasures, one of our 4 Great Aunts. All of them had hoped to spend a couple of weeks at the Old Farm place again this year, but they are too bad to make it. What wonderful memories we share of those visits!!!

For my morning devotions I read from I Kings 20. Benhadad's great host of an army had been thoroughly defeated the day before by Israel. The next morning, Benhadad's advisers said to him, " Their gods(Israel's) are gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they."

So now, we find the children of Israel camped like little children in the valley like two little flocks of kids, while the Syrians filled the country. Now, how venerable are "little kids?" Everyone knows that sheep are practically helpless by nature, without a good shepherd. Thus..the odds are against them!

Now(listen to the drum rolls!!!!!!!!!!!), a prophet walks onto the scene with these words for God's people. The Syrians have said, "Your god is only a god of the hills, NOT of the valley! Now God will deliver the enemy into your hands, and YE SHALL know, that I AM
THE LORD, THE GOD OF THE VALLEY!"

Well, I'm sure you know the rest of the story. Israel has a great victory, a wipe out!

Certainly not in their own strength, but of THE GOD OF THE VALLEY! Okay........ after reading that passage, I sat on my swing and talked to God. Lord, this morning, I surely feel like a "little kid." Circumstances and obstacles loom over me, and I'm frightened. But my God, is the God of the valley as well as the mountain. What a wonderful assurance! Once again, God spoke through His living, breathing, encouraging, Spirit filled Word. God's voice........ No, not through a prophet... but as Hebrew tells us, "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son......"

Do you feel like a little kid this morning? We really are, you know. But we have a Good Shepherd, a great God! Are you in the valley this morning? Does today's circumstances, needs, proposed plans, events, hover over you with unanswered questions? Look up! Look at Him! Not only is He the God of the mountain, but He is an unchanging God. Whoahoo........what does that mean? That He's engineering and orchestrating all the moments before you on this day! Got that! It is a bit overwhelming, isn't it?

Thank you, God, for today's message. It wasn't in a great wind, an earthquake, or a fire(as Elijah discovered), but through that still small voice, "Fear not, my child........I'll never leave you or forsake you! I'm STILL God!"

Still His child,
Linda

From Shades of Night

Good morning, Dear Friends and Family,

It's a cool sunny morning here in NC. It appears fall may be around the corner. The leaves are just starting to turn. I so much love this time of year.

I'm sitting in my recliner with my vibrator, heat on my back. It feels so good.

I just finished reading aloud, Ephesians 1 and 2. Whew! What a wonderful "dose." I think I'll go in the strength of it all week! Chapter two was titled, "Saved by Grace." As I was reading aloud for Jon and me, I had to keep pausing.........it was just too overwhelming! From verse one to verse six, I was taken from the depths of despair to heights of glory.

Paul reminded me that in time past I walked according to this World, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and was by nature a child of God's wrath. How awful! How hopeless! How dark!

Then verse four:

But God...

What about God? Who is rich in mercy! Who has great love! Who even when we were dead in sin, quickened us! Raised us up! And...

Made us to sit together with Him in heavenly places.

That in ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus! For by grace are we saved by faith.

Wow! That's what I call transformation! That's what I call change! That God should love a sinner such as I, how wonderful is love like this!

This morning, I'm aching from head to toe! I feel paralyzed in the grip of physical pain. But I'm soaring with the eagles in my soul! Suddenly even my temporal doesn't seem so important! I'm sitting with Jesus in Heavenly places!

Once again, He has spoken to me through His precious Word! God is so good, always, all the time!

FROM SINKING SAND HE LIFTED ME — HE LIFTED ME

In loving kindness Jesus came
My soul in mercy to reclaim,

And from the depths of sin and shame
Through grace he lifted me.

From sinking sand he lifted me,
With tender hand he lifted me,
From shades of night to plains of light,
Oh, praise his name, he lifted me!

He called me long before I heard,
Before my sinful heart was stirred,
But when I took him at his word,
Forgiv'n he lifted me.

His brow was pierced with many a thorn,
His hands by cruel nails were torn,
When from my guilt and grief, forlorn,
In love he lifted me.

Now on a higher plane I dwell,
And with my soul I know '
tis well;
Yet how or why, I cannot tell,
He should have lifted me.

Hope your day is blessed,

Linda

More "Summer Days"

Today I went with Amy and some of "The Kids" to the park.... Ha, ha...just couldn't resist that one. Here you see Grammie Linda and Meemee Francis whooping it up!
Erica trying to keep up with very independent Emily.
Grammie and JB
Mason and Erica
Did you ever notice how grandkids have a way of lifting your mood right to the top? Little Buddy finishing up the last bite of peach cobbler, "Nanny, your peach cobbler recipe needs to be on the food channel!"
Nanny's never played DS, but Jordan wanted her to so badly. After watching JB race his Cars around the mountainous trail a few rounds, Nanny exclaims, "Whew, JB, Nanny's so dizzy, I think you're going to have to pull over and let her out." Not paying a whole lot of attention to him, Nanny suddenly notices that the action has stopped. "Why did you quit?" she asks. "To let you out, Nanny!" JB answers very seriously. I think you can tell by the picture that it was pretty funny!
Amy, Jenny, JB, and Emily in the pool.

Erica and JB play basketball.

August Birthdays

Today is Jon Abram's birthday. Margaret's was the third and Cameron's is in two days.

Jon Abram's family came in last evening after church. Jon Abram and Margaret spent most of the day in Greensboro. Margaret had a visit with the neurologist and then tests and blood work. Her MRI last week seemed to indicate MS. So we had the grandkids. Most of them had their "fingers" in making the birthday cake.
You can see what these critters enjoyed, licking the bowls.

Saturday, Nanny found a steal at a yard sale. A $200. tournament basketball game like new for $10. Needless to say, they had a time.
This is what happens when one sister teases another about boys....
The girls enjoyed the pool. I think Melinda is in there somewhere....
JB's 25 cent yard sale special...
This blog isn't perfect, but I'm so tired, so here it is.............

We enjoyed our brother so much! Poor guy, born into a family of senior citizens. When he went out he returned with a goody for each of his sisters.
Last evening at Golden Corral...
Saying goodbye this morning, so hard....

Monty is still with Avon and me for a couple more days. I just pray it won't be so long before we're all together again!
