Go West........

From the beginning of time God has created men and women differently.  Women love security, sameness, love, and the fireside warmth.  These are innate gifts that make woman the faithful helpmate of man.

Men were created with a sense of adventure,  courage, and a deep need to provide for his own.  These gifts are what make him the protector, leader, and provider for his family.  These traits have always been the force that has fueled our nation's forward journey, from the covered wagon to the space shuttles.

The men have forged ahead seeking all that the future offered them, and willing to risk life and limb to obtain those opportunities for those whom they loved.  The strong women by their sides, though not endowed with all the masculine courage or strength, were equally responsible for sharing in their dream and just as willing to make that journey with them.

Today, I sit here thinking of those brave ones who settled our West. Who left the safety and security of familiar places and faces, to make that journey.

But today, as I think of those mentioned, I also have a new sense of the feelings of the ones left behind.  Sending them away with our blessing and prayers, doesn't seem to make my heart ache less.  This brave face that I'm determined to wear, can't mask this ache.  Knowing, as those ones of days long ago whom watched loved ones "pulling out" to cross a continent, I, too,  wrestle with the possibility that it may be a very very long time, if ever,  before I see them again.

Knowing one cannot "hold too tightly" to one's children, and only wishing them God's best, we must kiss them goodbye.

As in days long ago, in twelve days, the "caravan" will depart to make a long, arduous journey to a home almost 3000 miles away. Our prayers will go with them, every mile of the journey!  Those whom we cannot hold in our arms, we shall forever hold in our hearts!!!!
